A quaint heritage cottage named Violet Cottage, as it was named in memory of my mother who resided there years ago, and coincidentally is surrounded by violets of differing vibrant colours.

Twenty-five years ago when we bought this property, I fell in love with the little derelict cottage that had been the original farm house. I had always had a dream of a little old cottage surrounded by herbs, flowers and roses and was so excited to see it. My husband removed the mantelpiece, as often a gold sovereign was placed under this to date the house. He was slightly disappointed to find a halfpenny but it was dated 1901, so therefore we knew when the house had been built.

We renovated the cottage for our first registered kitchen, our first little shop and tiny tearooms, and it features on all of our labels that went with product exported to Australia and New York. Violet Cottage is only 1km (two minutes) from SH1, surrounded by farmland and extremely romantic, peaceful and private. Violet Cottage is a two-bedroom self-contained cottage with lounge, kitchen and dining room, with scenic deck and bathroom. It has its own garage and private entrance and is set in a tranquil rural environment. You are welcome to treat yourselves to fresh vegetables from our garden and fruit from our very old established orchard, which is never sprayed and has every variety you can imagine, such as figs, apples, oranges, peaches, pears, plums, etc. according to the season. You can then meander through the 'Secret Garden', which is overflowing with old roses, hydrangeas and delightful cottage-garden plants.

Accommodation

Two bedrooms: one queen-size, one single (can be two single), and a couch that folds out to a double bed in the lounge.

There is an ample-sized kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, fridge and stove so you can be independent and self-cater.

Self-catering is a continental breakfast of cereal, fruit, homemade yoghurt, toast and spreads, orange juice, tea and coffee. Bacon and eggs can be supplied for an extra $5 per person.
